It's all in the Eyes: A Spring Fever Remedy

Do you ever feel like this is what you sound like?

I felt a little like the Charlie Brown teacher today. And when I thought about it, I realized this is just only ONE of the the many symptoms I have been experiencing in my classroom lately. Here are some of the other symptoms I've been seeing in my students:

Extra Chatty, Extra Fidgety, Extra Day-Dreaming and Glances out the Window, Extra Tattling, Extra Glazing Over in the Eyes, Extra EVERYTHING

Well, I don't need a PhD to be able to diagnosis these symptoms. The diagnosis is pretty clear: My students have SPRING FEVER! And let's just be honest here: this teacher has Spring Fever too! Can I get an Amen? ;)

But let's face the facts, even though it is drop.dead.gorgeous outside and summer break is within sight (27 days...), there is still lots of work to be done before the end of the year AND it's way too early to break the routines we have worked oh.so.hard to set in place. We need the routines and our kiddos need the routines. The worse thing to do for Spring Fever is to give in and let things go. However, I am ALL for finding and putting in place some remedies to tame the Spring Fever beast.

Here's one of the Spring Fever remedies that I pulled out today:

One of the routines that I have been seeing Spring Fever hit is in our Daily 5 time, but today I pulled out these Googly Eye Finger puppets and the kids couldn't wait to do Daily 5! They just slip them on their pointer finger and use the googly eyes to read their books! LOVE!

You can get a dozen googly eyes on Amazon.com for around $5! Need an inexpensive and easy to implement Spring Fever remedy? Click HERE or on the picture above to check them out!

In other exciting news, I just have to share one of the COOLEST Flat Stanley's that arrived in our class today! In the Spring, I always read Flat Stanley with my students and then each student makes a Flat Stanley and sends it to someone they know. Then after having an adventure with Flat Stanley, he is sent back to our class with a letter and/or pictures explaining about his time with them. This is a great extension activity that covers maps, letter writing, addressing, etc. I've been doing this for 3 years and have NEVER seen one like this:
This person made a Flat Stanley book and on each page had a picture with a description! They even had Flat Stanley tucked in a envelope on the front. Come to find out the person that my student sent their Flat Stanley to was a teacher! #nowthatmakessense (I don't use twitter alot, but I just felt like that was an appropriate hashtag! :) My class enjoyed this Flat Stanley so much and I have to admit that I was a little envious that I had to send it home with my student! lol :) I wanted to keep it, it was that cool!

And if that wasn't exciting enough, did you all realize that tomorrow was Friday?! Thank goodness!!

What are you doing to help Spring Fever? I'd love to hear!
