Addition Song, Gesture, and Posters FREEBIE!

I LOVE using songs and gestures in my classroom! I've created many songs and gestures since I started teaching first grade and am always creating new ones too. We have been hard at work learning about addition in first grade. After the first day of introducing addition, many of my kiddos were really struggling. As I was driving home I was reflecting on my math lesson and trying to think of ways to help them better understand addition. By the time I arrived home I had written an addition song with gestures (don't worry I didn't do them while I was driving! I just thought through what I wanted to do!) and rushed inside to sing it to my hubby! :)

I taught the song and gesture to my kids the next day and they LOVED it! Even more importantly, I have already seen it making a difference in their understanding of the basic concepts of addition. This has been so helpful as we continue to build on that understanding. It makes me smile to hear them singing it to themselves as they are working! My husband keeps catching me singing it at home too-it's just that catchy! :)

I've put the song together in my latest FREEBIE {here} on TPT (don't you just LOVE freebies?!)

To see and learn the addition song and gesture there is a link in my packet to watch this video on my YouTube channel:

I'm sorry the for the quality. I'm new to the whole recording thing and will try to work on getting better sound and all, but I figured it would give you the idea and help you learn the song to teach your kiddos.

This addition packet FREEBIE also has an addition poster:

song lyrics poster:

and a gesture explanation poster:

Everything comes in 2 printing options: color or black and white.

Just head on over to my TPT page {here} to get your FREEBIE! I'd love to hear if you use this song in your classroom and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Happy Columbus Day!

  1. I am obsessed with this song! So cute. You remind me of my co-teacher when I taught in NYC - she was amazing at making up songs and her nice voice always drowned out my hideous, off-tune one!

Thanks for following, I'm your newest follower - Keep posting those songs!!!
