Classroom Cheers: Why I LOVE being a Cheerleader!!

One thing I LOVE about being a teacher is that I get to be a cheerleader every single day in the lives of my students! Minus the ribboned hair and poms-poms though. ;) And by modeling this, my kids become cheerleaders too! We had a fun day at the end of the year and a volunteer made a comment that they had never heard a class cheer on their classmates so much as my class did! :) Little did the volunteer know that this was a very intentional aspect of my classroom. :)

One of the ways that I build this positive environment in my classroom is through something that I like to call classroom cheers. When students give answers or read one of their writings out loud or do a math problem on the Smart Board, we always do some sort of fun cheer. For example, I will say "Give Jess a high five!" and then everyone in the class give a hive 5 in the air to Jess and says "You deserve a hand Jess!" Or I will say something like, "Nate's writing is out of this world today-everyone give Nate a Blast Off! The kids then take their hands explode them into the air while saying; "BLAST OFF! You're out of this world NATE!" Is it crazy? YES! Is it fun? YES! Does it help build confidence and support in my room? YES YES YES!

It's one of my favorite things that I have implemented in my class and the kids eat.it.up! Why wouldn't they?! We all know that giving positive praise causes students to feel celebrated, it builds confidence, and it amps up motivation to participate because students feel safe to learn and and try! We use these cheers many times throughout the day: they are easy to learn and implement. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I've put together 24 of the cheers that I have made up to use in my classroom and have packaged them all into my latest product:
This product has everything you need to make up your own Classroom Cheer container, which makes it easy.peasy.lemon.squeezy to use!
Each cheer is a card that gets folded and glued to a jumbo craft stick. I've designed them to be easy to use with the cheer on the front side and the directions on how to do the cheer on the back:
I also made them as squares instead of circles to save on cutting time! The sticks make it easy to just pull a cheer whenever you need it! I use them whenever students give an answer, do work on the SmartBoard, share their writing, are caught being "good," or are working very hard! They can be used to praise one student, multiple students or even the whole class!

Altogether this packet includes:

-instructions on how and when to use the cheers

-instructions, container label, and 24 cheer cards (with directions on the back) to make the cheer sticks
-a blank cheer card page to add your own cheers to the Classroom Cheers container

This product will be on sale HERE for the next 24 hours! And as always, the first 2 people to comment and leave their email address will receive it for free! :)
