100th Day, Baby Showers, Long E, and a getaway weekend!

I'm BACK! Wow-has it been a crazy busy last couples of weeks! Sorry to drop off the face of the bloggy planet, but this girl has been nonstop and on top of it I've been fighting sickness. I guess when you have 4-5 kids out for a week due to sickness, that the teacher's bound to catch something! Here are some pics to catch you up on what's been going on in my neck of the woods:

100th Day
We had our 100th day celebration! Wish I could show you pics of the kiddos all dressed up like they were 100 years old! Gosh-they were adorable! We did this super cute 100 year old writing activity from Deanna Jump's 100th day unit {here}.
Does it make me old if I like the sounds of sleeping and reading? :)

We also made 100 day hats (sorry no pics) and each student brought in a bag of 100 things. We sorted and practiced counting them!
This student's piles of pennies makes me smile! Don't you love how activities like this bring out each student's personality!

Valentine's Day
We also had a blast celebrating Valentine's Day! My kids especially LOVED doing the iLOVE estimation activity from my Valentine day packet {here}. Each student brought in a jar of candy and then everyone went around and made their estimations. When the results were revealed they colored their apps to show whether their answers were equal, greater than, or less than the actual amount.

Baby Shower
I also helped plan and throw a baby shower for one of my dearest friends! We didn't quite pull off a full surprise, but it was still a wonderful time!

My friend is also a teacher, so we did a Children's Book theme. Each table had a different book, with the character, and then diecuts surrounding it. Based on the theme-the people at that table wrote advice on the diecuts. For example-for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom people wrote advice about things to teach children on cut out letters and for The Grouchy Ladybug people wrote advice about babies and their schedules on cut out clocks. I think you get the point. Here are some of the table centerpieces:
My favorite part from the shower was this pinterest inspired Hungry Caterpillar cupcake extraordinaire made by my friend's sister-in-law! Can you say Uh-MAZING!

Observation
I also had an observation last week and I taught my kiddos the long e /ea/ pattern by using The Dream Team from my Long e unit {here}. So, am I the only one that gets nervous for observations?! You think I'd be used to them by now!
Thankfully the observation went well and my kids LOVE the Dream Team and Sweet Team!
What I love the most is that now as they are reading their books, they will say "Look-I found the Sweet Team!" Even my struggling readers are starting to find and be able to find the Sweet Team or Dream Team as they read the /ee/ and /ea/ vowel pairs!

Read Across America
Our school does a whole day celebration for Read Across America day! We have guest readers and do lots of fun reading activities. Leading up to this day, there was a rhyming morning message from the "doctor" each morning. My kiddos couldn't wait to see what he wrote us each day! I saw this idea on pinterest last year and adapted it. Sometimes his message would be about one of his books or like this message, it would review one of our skills. We've been working on place value and the importance of looking at the tens first and then the ones, so pardon all of the scribbles! The number that was less was circled in green and the number that was more was circled in black.

Amazing Hubby!
My amazing hubby, knowing how busy I've been, planned a getaway weekend for us this past weekend! SOO needed! I just love that man!! He's so thoughtful and we had such a blast together! The only bummer is that I forgot my camera. Ah! Left it at school from our Read Across America day. Capturing Great Teaching Moments: 1

So no new pictures of me and my hubby from our weekend getaway, but here's a picture this summer of the place where my hubby took me.
Can you guess where he took me?!

The first 2 correct guesses (with an email address) are going to WIN my Long E Tennis Teams unit:
And if this post couldn't get more ADD--just had to end with this great ecard! LOL So true!

Happy Tuesday Friends!
